The inspiration to make this wine comes from the desire to make an attractive wine that partners well with food and is an affordable way to start your journey through the Ulithorne wine range. It is the first of 3 wines within the Dona range, which also includes the Dona Shiraz and Dona Blanc.

It is a celebration of a more savoury style of GSM that works so well with food, with its lifted fruit, fresh acidity and tantalising spices. Dona, which means ‘Gift’ in Latin, has a philanthropic heart; with each bottle made, we make a financial contribution to charity. Our winery has a strong intention to support social change and we believe that we can best do this through our daily work of winemaking.

Ulithorne DONA Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2014  Grenache dominant, this GSM fruit is sourced from friends’ vineyards and shows pretty, lifted, rich cherries & plums – the primary fruit flavours of  varieties we grow so well in McLaren Vale.  It is 60% Grenache, 30% Shiraz and 10% Mourvedre. The style of this GSM is influenced by the style of GSM’s from southern Rhone, France and their celebration of the ‘village’ style of wine.

Ulithorne DONA Shiraz 2015  Sourced from friends’ vineyards, this Shiraz shows pretty, ripe plums, subtle peppery notes and a supportive line of acid that makes it a great food wine.

Ulithorne DONA Blanc 2016  Carefully crafted to convey all that is enjoyed in the Rhone Valley white wines; fresh acidity, some supportive texture, and lively fruit with a purity that reminds you of summer. Fresh lemon curd, white peach perfume, supported by fresh lime acidity and nashi pear texture.

"Deep, dark, slightly black/tawny tinged colour. The bouquet is subdued and earth-bound, with savoury and not fragrant aromas. Hints of ironstone. The wine is full-bodied and firm, with solid structure and excellent ripeness. Big and generous with abundant ripe tannins and a sense of gravitas. Excellent wine for the long term. 28/5/2017"

"The palate is awash with dark chocolate and plum fruit, oak gives richness, texture and depth with a flowing line of acidity that keeps the wines richer characters in check. The finish has a drying, earthen web of tannins and layers of dark berry fruit and chocolate notes."

"The palate displays considerable weight and power, together with awesome fruit purity and intensity, wonderfully framed by velvety texture and polished tannins. A seriously good shiraz offering outstanding richness and length."
