Ulithorne ‘FRUX FRUGIS’ Shiraz 2015

FRUX FRUGIS: [Latin] fruit of the earth

‘Frux Frugis’ is Latin for ‘fruit of the earth’ and individually sourced from the finest parcels of Shiraz on the old vines of Ulithorne Vineyards.

This wine presents a full palate of rich ripe plums and blackberries, dark spices like cloves and star anise, some chocolate, inkiness, and cedary oak. There is a grand weight, exceptional length, and slight bitterness with lots of tannins. This vintage of Frux Frugis shows the reward in which wonderful weather and well-tended vines can bring to a wine. Our Frux Frugis is individually numbered.

There is currently a limit on Frux Frugis of one bottle person customer.

The Accolades

Vintage 2015: Scents of cherry and damson are lifted by aromatic spices. The soft mouthfeel is filled out with gentle oak, cigars and inky tar notes. It’s dancing but seriously concentrated, with black cherry richness followed by spice and fresh acidity. A balanced conclusion. This is a wing to age. Optiomal drinking 2019 – 2027. 93 points – Decanter Magazine (July 2018 Issue)

Vintage 2014: Decanter’s Asian Wine Awards 2017 – BEST AUSTRALIAN RHONE VARIETAL

Vintage 2014: “Saturated deep red/purple colour. The bouquet is very ripe and appealing, with sweet blackberry to black cherry nuances, these flavours translating faithfully onto the very full-bodied palate. A powerful, deep-flavoured wine, with excellent structure and generous tannins. It has great balance in spite of its bigness. A luxurious wine.” 97 points (31/5/17) – Huon Hooke, #1 ranked of 2014 Vintage
