Ulithorne ‘FRUX FRUGIS’ Shiraz 2015

FRUX FRUGIS: [Latin] fruit of the earth

‘Frux Frugis’ is Latin for ‘fruit of the earth’ and individually sourced from the finest parcels of Shiraz on the old vines of Ulithorne Vineyards.

This wine presents a full palate of rich ripe plums and blackberries, dark spices like cloves and star anise, some chocolate, inkiness, and cedary oak. There is a grand weight, exceptional length, and slight bitterness with lots of tannins. This vintage of Frux Frugis shows the reward in which wonderful weather and well-tended vines can bring to a wine. Our Frux Frugis is individually numbered.

A small allocation of the 2015 ‘Frux Frugis’ is still available within our Halliday’s 97 Point Collectors Pack – please click here for more details.

The Accolades

“Old vines in a single vineyard with low yields. The bouquet makes me think of the River Styx, dark and impenetrable, the full-bodied palate’s power and liquid intensity coming as a shock. No light feminine touch here, and why should there be. It is a remarkable wine of very high quality, piling on the flavour as its length extends inexorably.” 97 points – James Halliday

“McLaren Vale Shiraz with some impressive pedigree that delivers on it’s reputation and the vintage. A brooding nose of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum that’s softened by softened vanillin oak. Layers of black fruits show themselves on the palate with milk chocolate and earthen leathery notes. Tannins are drying, firm, and underwrite decades of development. A wine with classy winemaking and undeniably high quality fruit has resulted in a benchmark example of McLaren Vale Shiraz.” 97 points – Patrick Eckel
